Condition check, adjustment of a tension and replacement of a driving belt (only for engines with tension adjustment)

The scheme of laying of a maple belt of the engine of 2.0 l since 1995 of release and the DOHC engine without the conditioner
The scheme of laying of a maple belt of the engine of 2.0 l from the middle of 1995 of release and at the DOHC engine with the pump of the hydraulic booster of a steering and the conditioner
Condition check
PERFORMANCE ORDER |
1. The driving belts sometimes called by V-shaped belts of section or simply ventilyatorny belts, are in a forward part of the engine and play important role in operation of the car and its separate components. Because of features of a material and operating conditions driving belts fail after a while, and consequently their condition it is necessary to check and regulate periodically effort of a tension in order to avoid serious damages of the engine. |
2. The quantity of the belts used on the concrete car, depends on the units established on it and systems. Driving belts are applied to actuating of the generator, the steering pump, the water pump and the compressor of central air of air. Depending on an arrangement of pulleys one belt can put in action at once some components. |
|
Some of most often meeting defects of driving belts. |
3. Switch off the engine, open a cowl and find various driving belts in a forward part of the engine. Fingers (and using a small lamp if it is necessary) walk on all length of each belt, feeling them on existence of cracks and stratifications. Also check, whether is not present on belts of attritions and zapolirovanny sites to shine. Each belt should be examined from both parties that means need of its perekruchivaniye for check of a condition of seamy side. |
|
4. The tension of a belt is checked by strong pressing on it by a thumb and definitions of degree of its deflection. Size of a deflection measure by a ruler. The rule of a thumb says that if the distance between centers pulleys makes from 180 to 280 mm, the size of a deflection should equal 6 mm. If the distance between centers pulleys is in limits between 300 and 400 mm, the deflection should be 13 mm. |
|
Adjustment
PERFORMANCE ORDER |
1. In need of adjustment of a tension of a belt towards its increase or reduction it becomes by moving of the unit given by a belt on its fixing arm. In that case when the belt puts in action more than one unit, usually for its adjustment there is enough shift only one of them. |
|
Shooters point to lock-nuts of the tension screw of adjustment of a maple belt (the engine of 2.4 l). |
2. Each unit has an adjusting bolt and an axial bolt. For its moving on an arm it is necessary to weaken both bolts slightly. For some units the tension of a driving belt can be regulated, turning an adjusting bolt after weakening of a lock bolt. |
3. After both bolts are weakened, displace the unit from the engine for increase in a tension of a belt, or to the engine for its easing. Fix the unit in new situation and check a belt tension. If further adjustment is not required, twirl both bolts and once again check a tension. If changed nothing, tighten bolts finally. |
4. Often for unit moving for the purpose of adjustment of a tension of a belt it is necessary to use the lever. If it is necessary, act extremely carefully not to damage the moved unit or an element used as a point of support. |
|
Replacement
PERFORMANCE ORDER |
1. For replacement of a belt follow the instructions provided above on adjustment, but thus remove a belt from pulleys. |
2. In certain cases you should remove more than one belt because of features of their arrangement in a forward part of the engine. Therefore, and also because belts tends to fail at the same time, to replace them too best of all at the same time. Mark each belt and a flute corresponding to it on a pulley correctly to establish new belts. |
3. Upon purchase of new belts it is convenient to take with itself old to have possibility directly to compare them on length, width and a design. |
4. Check a tension of new belts after run of several hundred kilometers. |
