Parking brake

GENERAL INFORMATION

ADJUSTMENT OF THE PARKING BRAKE

Process of adjustment of the parking brake depends on a design of a working brake of back wheels. For drum-type and disk brakes it is various.

For drum-type brakes - to the middle of 1995 of release

Adjustment of the parking brake is provided with the mechanism of self-installation of a working brake. The pulling of a cable of a drive of a brake can lead to increase in a course of the lever of a brake that will demand the corresponding adjustment. For installation of brake shoes in a starting position it is necessary to press a brake pedal so that the mechanism of automatic installation of blocks any more did not click. For carrying out adjustment two persons are required.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lift and establish on supports a back part of the car.
2. Completely release the parking brake.
3. Weaken a nut (1) adjusting draft and tighten an adjusting nut (2) to pull a cable. Thus brake shoes should concern slightly a brake drum, i.e. the brake only starts to work.
4. Three-four times cock the parking brake and check, that wheels were clamped, if the lever of a brake is established on the fourth tooth of sector.
5. In this situation tighten a lock-nut the moment of 12 Nanometers.
6. Release the parking brake and turn wheels. They should rotate freely. Check rotation of both wheels since at rotation of one wheel another can jam.
7. Again move the lever of the parking brake on 4 teeth and check, whether wheels are clamped.
8. Inspect several times, tightening and releasing a brake.
9. If adjustment is carried out successfully, lower the car on the earth.
10. Check brake action on a bias.

For a disk brake - from the middle of 1995 of release

Here the gap between brake shoes and a disk drum from the interior of a drum is regulated. The specified gap should be adjusted before adjustment of a tension of a cable of a drive.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lift and establish on supports a back part of the car.
2. Take out a rubber stopper from an opening for adjustment from a reverse side of a brake board in a place shown on an illustration.
3. Insert into an opening a screw-driver and move down a castor of an adjusting bolt so that brake shoes concerned a drum.
4. From this situation, gradually rotating a castor, bring a drum into a motionless condition.
5. Turn a castor of an adjusting bolt in the opposite direction so that the drum had possibility to start to be turned. Usually for this purpose it is necessary to unscrew a castor on 7-8 teeth back.
6. In summary turn both wheels, having convinced that brake drums are not clamped by blocks.
7. Adjust a tension of cables of a drive of the parking brake in the way described above. The difference in this case is that the lever of a brake should hold wheels at its situation between 5 and 7 teeth of sector.

For drum-type brakes

The drive consists of two cables which fasten on the one hand to brake shoes of back brakes and on the other hand to the equalizer located under the bottom of the car. Cables are replaced in pair.

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lift and establish on supports a back part of the car.
2. Measure by a ruler length of the acting carving end of adjusting draft.
3. Write down the size and unscrew an adjusting nut.
4. Disconnect both cables from the equalizer.
5. Remove brake shoes and disconnect from them cables as it is described above.
6. Remove flat-nose pliers on each cable a spring clip from a reverse side of a brake board (in a clip point to a board).
7. Disconnect cables from directing on a floor and a suspension bracket of wheels. For this purpose probably it is required to unbend holders. Remember the scheme of laying of cables.

Installation

Installation of cables is made in sequence, return to removal.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lay cables.
2. Establish brake shoes according to the description provided in Section 3.
3. At assembly maintain the size of an acting part of the adjusting draft, received earlier.
4. Adjust the parking brake as it is described above.
5. Lower the car on wheels.
6. Establish wheels and fix them.

At disk brakes

Cables are replaced to description similarly provided above. The difference is that not brake drums, and disk here act in film.

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Measure the acting carving end of adjusting draft.
2. Unscrew nuts and remove the equalizer.
3. Disconnect cables from drive levers on supports.
4. Disconnect cables from directing on a floor and a bridge arm.

Installation

Installation of a disk brake is carried out in sequence, return to removal. Pay attention to the correct laying of cables.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Bolts of fastening of holders of cables tighten the moment of 9 Nanometers.
2. Screw adjusting nuts, having provided the size received earlier.
3. Adjust cables as it is described above.
