Steering mechanism


The hydraulic booster of a steering reduces the effort demanded for turn of a steering wheel by means of use of energy of pressure of liquid. The hydraulic booster contains the piston with segment shaft. For adjustment of pressure of liquid the adjusting valve serves.
Pressure of working liquid is created by the pump given in rotation by the engine of the car. The hydraulic pump has built in safety and perepuskny valves. The safety valve does not allow increase of pressure of liquid above established, perepuskny the valve перепускает surpluses of liquid on plums.
The tank contains the liquid necessary for operation of the hydraulic booster. In a tank there is a filter of purification of liquid.

At performance of any works with the hydraulic booster it is necessary to mean the following:
  – if necessary the car can be lifted and established on supports
  – fixing of the car should be reliable
  – one if necessary act in film or both wheels
  – before removal of wheels it is necessary to mark their situation concerning naves

When undocking hoses and pipelines liquid follows. Substitute capacity for collecting following liquid.

At assembly of shlangovy connections and pipelines watch that hoses were not bent and were not braided. Watch also that pipelines and especially hoses did not concern places with high temperature and rotating details.

Collars, laying and similar details should be established always the new.

After assembly of system fill in liquid remove from system air (Section 11).

Apply only the liquids recommended by Opel firm.

After assembly start the engine and check system on tightness. Leaks are always appreciable by traces of drops on the earth under the car.



1. Unscrew cap nuts and disconnect pressure head and drain hoses in the places shown on an illustration.
2. Accept the relevant activities for collecting following liquid.

Now the system does not contain some liquid. By no means it is impossible to start the engine now.
3. Disconnect from the steering mechanism a soshka as it is described above.
4. Unscrew a terminal bolt of fastening of the kardanny hinge.
5. Mark mutual position of the hinge and a shaft of a worm of the steering mechanism, as shown.
6. Unscrew nuts and bolts of fastening of the steering mechanism from a longeron of a body and remove the mechanism. The arrangement of bolts is shown on an illustration.


The steering mechanism in sequence is established, to return to removal. Thus it is necessary to mean the following:

At assembly of a shaft and the kardanny hinge combine them according to available marking. The coupling bolt enters into a groove on a shaft. If any details were replaced, it is necessary to establish a steering drive and a steering wheel in average situation. The Kardanny hinge should move slightly on a shaft of the steering mechanism, sensitive details of the mechanism otherwise can be damaged. The coupling bolt is tightened by the moment of 25 Nanometers.

1. Tighten bolts of fastening of the mechanism the moment of 50 Nanometers.
2. Wrap cap nuts of hydrowires and tighten them the moment of 45 Nanometers. The inhaling should be carried out carefully since connection has a small carving.
3. Establish a steering soshka and tighten a nut of its fastening the moment of 220 Nanometers.
4. Fill in in system liquid and remove air.


The steering mechanism is subject to repair, however this work here is not described. Experience shows that the specified work is better for carrying out in a repair truck, or to replace the steering mechanism.
