Verifying and adjusting works on the car

GENERAL INFORMATION

Below the description of the verifying and adjusting works which are carried out on a forward suspension bracket is provided.

CHECK OF DISORDER, LONGITUDINAL TILT ANGLE OF THE AXIS OF TURN, CONVERGENCE AND ROAD CLEARANCE

Before carrying out any measuring works should be satisfied the following conditions:

Wear of a profile of all tires should be approximately identical.

Pressure in tires should correspond to a full load of the car.

All rims should be in a faultless condition.

Spherical support of steering drafts and a suspension bracket should not have gaps.

The car should have the established road clearance (look the subsequent description).

At measurement of geometry of forward wheels the car should be on the equal platform having identical height around lobbies and back wheels. The difference in height more than 6 mm is not allowed. The fuel tank should be completely filled and the car should not be loaded by something.

In the course of measurement the wheel should stand directly.

Measurement should be carried out with use of optical devices. In the below-mentioned description cases of carrying out measurements in emergencies are considered only.

ADJUSTMENT OF HEIGHT OF THE FORWARD SUSPENSION BRACKET (ROAD CLEARANCE)

The height of a forward suspension bracket is regulated by means of an adjusting bolt торсиона. The arrangement of a bolt is shown on an illustration. Bolt rotation clockwise increases suspension bracket height.

The height, as shown is measured. The size "Z" is defined as a difference of the And and In sizes. The received value is necessary for comparing to a preset value: The maximum difference between both parties of cars of release from the middle of 1995 makes 5 mm.

ADJUSTMENT OF THE CORNER OF DISORDER OF WHEELS

The corner of disorder of wheels can be measured by means of mechanical means, however exact measurement needs the optical device. If disorder leaves for the established values, it can be adjusted.

Adjustment is reached by change of thickness of washers between an axis of the top lever of a suspension bracket and a cross-piece arm.

Adjusting washers have cuts. After an otvorachivaniye of both bolts they can be taken out and replaced.
Disorder of cars should have the values specified in Specifications.
The most admissible difference between the parties is specified in Specifications.

For adjustment unscrew bolts and nuts of fastening of the lever of a suspension bracket and take out washers, as is shown in an illustration. Washers become on both bolts of fastening of an axis of the top lever. It is not necessary to confuse them to washers of adjustment of a longitudinal tilt angle of an axis of turn.

For disorder reduction the quantity of washers increases, for increase respectively decreases. It is necessary to remember that the general thickness of washers for adjustment of disorder and a longitudinal tilt angle should not exceed more than 10.8 mm.

After adjustment tighten nuts of fastening the moment of 155 Nanometers, holding bolts from a provorachivaniye.
Control of adjustment is made by optical means.

ADJUSTMENT OF THE LONGITUDINAL TILT ANGLE OF THE AXIS OF TURN OF THE WHEEL

The longitudinal tilt angle of an axis of turn is regulated by change of thickness of a set of adjusting washers between an axis of the top lever of a suspension bracket and a cross-piece arm.

Washers are in a place shown on an illustration, over both fixing bolts.
Washers have a cut.

As well as the disorder corner, a longitudinal tilt angle of an axis of turn can be measured by mechanical means. However optical methods it is more preferable.

For adjustment of a longitudinal tilt angle of an axis of turn it is necessary to weaken bolts and the nuts shown on an illustration, and to remove or add adjusting washers.

Reduction of a longitudinal tilt angle of an axis of turn. At a forward bolt the quantity of washers increases or the quantity of washers at a back bolt decreases.

Increase in a longitudinal tilt angle of an axis of turn. At a forward bolt the quantity of washers decreases or the quantity of washers at a back bolt increases.
The difference in thickness of washers of a forward and back bolt should not exceed 3.2 mm.

As washers for adjustment of a corner of disorder of wheels also are in a place shown on an illustration, the set of the washers which general thickness should not exceed 10.8 mm is formed.

After adjustment tighten boltovy connection by the moment of 155 Nanometers.

ADJUSTMENT OF THE CONVERGENCE OF WHEELS

The convergence of forward wheels is regulated by change of length of steering drafts on identical size. It provides saving of the provision of spokes of a steering wheel. The distance between forward wheels of Frontera ahead is less, than behind (to the middle of the 1995th release) or equally each other (from the middle of 1995 of release).

The scheme of installation of wheels is shown on an illustration.

Adjustment of a convergence of wheels by means of a special template is made as follows:

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check, that pressure in tires corresponded established and that the car stood on an equal platform. The car should not have loading. The fuel tank should be filled.
2. Several times strongly press edges of the car in front that elements of a suspension bracket occupied the working situation.
3. A steering wheel put directly.
4. Establish a template "on a zero" and put it to a forward part of wheels at height of naves.
5. Put measuring cores of a template to edges of disks of wheels and clamp them.
6. Designate on wheels chalk the provision of measuring cores.
7. Once again check, that the template was established "on a zero".
8. Move the car forward so that wheels turned on a half of turn
and cretaceous strokes appeared again at height of naves, but on the other side of wheels.
9. Put again a template to disks of wheels, but now under the car. If the template does not manage to be put to disks of wheels, it specifies that the size behind is necessary for increasing. The admission on the measured distance makes ± 2 mm.
10. Change the provision of measuring cores of a template so that it could enter between disks of wheels, clamp cores and take out a template to read the instrument. If the indication of a template leaves out of the established limits, the corresponding adjustment is required.
11. Lift and establish a forward part of the car on supports.
12. Weaken fastening of collars of both steering drafts
13. Turn out steering drafts from both parties on identical size. It is necessary to turn out in steps on a turn quarter.
14. Check convergence adjustment as it was described above and at achievement of desirable result tighten collars the moment of 120 Nanometers. It is necessary to watch that lengths of both steering drafts were identical. The difference in lengths should not exceed 5 mm.
15. After adjustment check, that the steering wheel was on the average situation. It is checked at car movement on a direct road.

CHECK OF THE ANGLE OF ROTATION OF FORWARD WHEELS

The angle of rotation of forward wheels is checked after convergence adjustment. Over a finger of the spherical hinge of the bottom lever of a suspension bracket there is an adjusting bolt by means of which the angle of rotation of forward wheels is regulated. Control of an angle of rotation needs the graduated washer. Therefore considered work is recommended to be carried out in the conditions of a repair truck. Thus it is necessary to mean that the angle of rotation of internal wheels makes 21°50' if the angle of rotation of external wheels is equal 20 °.
